Play the Monster in this Chilling Adventure Game

Nowadays, horror games are becoming more and more popular among gamers. And why not? Put in an intriguing story and downright scary jumpscares, and any player will have a thrilling and heart-pounding time. It would be more exciting if the game involves a monster hunting you down. But what if this time you made the chasing instead of you being chased? It sounds a whole lot of fun, right? With Carrion, you can do that. This action game offers a reverse horror game concept wherein, instead of being the victim, you will be playing the monster. It is an exciting new play in the field of horror games designed to unleash the monster in every player.

Unleashing the Beast

Carrion will cast you as a tentacled monster who needs to murder as many humans as you can to escape the research facility. Downright gory right? However, the purpose of consuming humans does not only end there. At the start of the game, the monster is a small, sentient coil of tendrils, and it was only with eating humans that it can gain mass. But that’s not all. As you gobble up people, you will gain mass along with new skills that will let you reach unexplored parts of the labyrinthine map. For example, eating several men will make you grow large to unlock the ability to dash. With this, you will be able to burst through wooden surfaces. However, there will also be some moment wherein you will need to reject a good chunk of mass to get another ability, such as spitting out a little spidery arm to open doors.

Of course, humans will not be left defenseless and waiting for you to eat them. To match your evolving skills, they will attempt to defend themselves in kind. You will face armored enemies with assault rifles, and hazmat suit-clad commandos with flamethrowers will attempt to hunt you and burn your alien menace.

The laboratory in Carrion is basically a maze filled with rooms designed to keep you locked in. However, worry not as you will have some awesome ability that could help you breakout.

Not Your Ordinary Horror Game

On the surface, Carrion appears to be another run of the mill side-scroller that is trying to revolutionize the Metroidvania genre of the modern-day. The game has got a lot going for it aside from its easy-on-the-eyes pixel art. Traversing through each stage does not only need you to consume humans. It also requires strategy and puzzle-solving similar to other platformer titles.

Coupling its gameplay with a unique art style also heightens the horror element of the game. Usual horror games have a design that elicits a response from the player, such as a scared reaction. In Carrion, the tables have turned. Since you are the monster, you no longer need to watch your back for jumpscares.

Brutal Guilty Pleasure

As a whole, Carrion gives the horror game genre a new look. The unique concept alone is enough to give it a major stride ahead of its competition. Add in great an unsettling creature movement, buckets of gore, and frankly unsettling sound design, and you have a horror game fanatic’s paradise. If you are eager for a bout of gory slaughter, this is a game is a brutal guilty pleasure that will have you asking for more.
